St. John’s School Newsletter

Dear Parents

St. John’s School will be celebrating on the 1st of June “The International Children’s Day!”. We will be having a jumping castle and a ball pool for the little ones.

As you know, starting from yesterday, it is the last Assessment week (17th till the 21st May) this year.

Please ensure that throughout this week your child gets sufficient sleep and rest, as well as a well-balanced diet; as these are known to increase his/her alertness during the day

All assessments begin at 9:15am and so that your child does not feel rushed in any way, please make sure she/he is at school before this time.

Young Toddlers (1 Year Olds)

We would like you to contribute to our end of the year Art display.

Here is what your child needs to bring in by the 2nd June.

The project needs to be 3-D and you may use any type of material you wish.

Daniel – Honey Pot

Francisco Castro Caldas – A Frog

Francisco Bishop – A Hive

Maria Afonso – Teddy Bear

Miguel Pereira – Bird

Joana Vairinhos – A Monkey with a banana

Gabriel Neves – Elmer the Elephant

Tiago Pinto – A Bee

Clara Trincheiras – A Pig

Thank you for your cooperation.

Toddlers (2 Year Olds)

We have been very busy!

We are now working really hard on our end of the Year Art

Exhibition, and we hope you have not forgotten the “Smurf Project” that is due on June 1st.

After Assessments week we will continue our learning activities by remembering all vocabulary and notions we were taught so far.

We are also very confident that our little ones will be potty trained in a few weeks…

Please remember to put “push-up” nappies on your child to help us with the process.

Thank You.

Nursery News (3 Year Olds)

At Nursery: we will continue to develop our “all about me” theme.

We will talk about and name parts of the body.

We will use songs to reinforce knowledge of these body parts. Children will consider the way they look and develop knowledge about themselves.

This theme will help to create self-esteem and confidence to share information about family, friends as well as themselves.

It will help develop language and self-esteem and help children to recognise that everyone is different but specials in their own way!

Song:

Head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes

Head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes

And eyes and ears and mouth and nose

Head, shoulders, knees and toes

Knees and toes

Reception News (4 Year Olds)

We can only think about one thing ‘Art Art Art’. We learnt about different sculptures, we went with Katie to the art – gallery where we saw different paintings, we played music and many more… We are also working hard on our art-pieces and that’s so much fun!! Hopefully you already have an idea for your art-piece! Don’t forget to hand in the art-piece during the first week of June!

Year 1 News (5 Year Olds)

Dear Parents: Could you please make sure that your child practices this song with you at home.

Thank You.

Song: Raindrops on roses and   whiskers on kittens

Bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens

Brown paper packages tied up with strings

These are a few of my favourite things

Cream coloured ponies and crisp apple strudels

Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles

Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings

These are a few of my favourite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes

Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes

Silver white winters that melt into springs

These are a few of my favourite things

 When the dog bites

When the bee stings

When I’m feeling sad

I simply remember my favourite things

And then I don’t feel so bad

Deciduous teeth, otherwise known as milk teeth, baby teeth, temporary teeth and primary teeth, are the first set of teeth in the growth development of humans and many other mammals. They develop during the embryonic stage of development and erupt—that is, they become visible in the mouth—during infancy. They are usually lost and replaced by permanent teeth, but in the absence of permanent replacements, they can remain functional for many years.
