St. John’s School Newsletter

Dear Parents

Assessment week will be held from the 15th March till the 19th March.

Please ensure that throughout this week your child gets sufficient sleep and rest, as well as a well-balanced diet; as these are known to increase his/her alertness during the day.

All assessments begin at 9:15am and so that your child does not feel rushed in any way, please make sure she/he is at school before this time.

As you all know, we have contacted the Mayor of Cascais regarding our school parking. We will keep you updated on this topic. For obvious safety reasons please do not park on the pedestrian crossing. Thank you for your cooperation.

Young Toddlers ( 1 Year Olds)

We are working on a top secret activity. We can only tell you that it has something to do with our dearest Daddies. We will also be starting on a new colour (green).

Homework activity: We would like parents to contribute to our end of the year Art display. All the information about this activity will be sent out in the message books.

As the weather is getting better, our P.E classes will be starting next week. These classes will be held on Tuesdays and Fridays to reinforce your child’s gross motor skills. We kindly request that for these days your child brings trainers.

Lost and found: A blue fleece jacket has gone missing from our classroom, could you please have a look at home. Thank you

Toddlers (2 Year Olds)

Please do not forget to bring in the recipe! We hope that everyone is having fun creating their Smurf Character!

March will be a very busy month! We have completed the Father’s Day present and Easter surprise, and have been so busy with our end of the year art exhibition.

Rainy days have been setting us back with the toilet training adventure, however we are willing for the sunny days to come so that we can try to say goodbye to nappies!

Spring and all about it will be our next topic; we will count seeds, and flowers. We will plant and watch them grow. We will look at the weather and clothes for this time of year too. We already know that we can see plenty of birds during spring time and so to welcome them we have learnt a new rhyme:

Two little black birds, sitting on a wall, one named Peter the other named Paul. Fly away Peter. Fly away Paul, comeback Peter, comeback Paul!

Nursery News (3 Year Olds)

Dear Parents,

We are all very excited about Fathers day coming up on the 19th March. Children are preparing a surprise for their “Special dad’s”!

Reminder: Please bring in Art homework by: 26th March.

Daddy, I Love You

Daddy, I love you
For all that you do.
I'll kiss you and hug you
Because you love me, too. You feed me and need me
To teach you to play.
So smile because I love you
On this Father's Day.

Reception News (4 Year Olds)

During the next few weeks we are going to revise and practice what we learnt during our numeracy and literacy classes. You know that we can count in two´s! We learnt a little song that helps us:

There was a farmer who had a pig

And Even was his name-o

2-4-6-8-10 x 3

And Even was is name-o

(Odd: 1-3-5-7-9)

Reception class started working on a new theme “spring”. We are going to learn about the weather, baby animals and flowers. We will also be doing our own gardening. It’s going to be fun, fun, fun!!!

Reminders: Homework is given on Thursdays and has to be handed in on Wednesdays! (Following week)

The word box for the high frequency words should be in your child’s back pack at all times.

Please arrive on time. Classes start at 9:00 and it is very hard for children to concentrate on their work if the class is frequently interrupted. Thank you.

Year 1 News (5 Year Olds)

You are what I want to be

Walk a little slower Daddy, said a child so small.

I’m following in your footsteps and I don’t want to fall.

Sometimes your steps are very fast,

Sometimes they are hard to see;

So walk a little slower, Daddy,

For you are leading me.

Someday when I’m all grown up

You are what I want to be,

Then I will have a little child

Who will want to follow me.

And I would want to lead just right

And know that I was true,

So, walk a little slower, Daddy,

For I must follow you.”
