News of St. John's School
 St. John’s School Newsletter
Dear Parents
Due to recent events, St. John´s strongly advises parents to never leave any objects in your car at any time. Car windows have been reported broken and objects have been stolen.
We would also like to advise parents to be very cautious when parking (never on the wrong side of the lane).
We know that this situation is not always easy but we are working with the Cascais Council to find a solution.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Young Toddlers ( 1 Year Olds)
Dear Parents, the Carnival Holidays are long gone and we are ready for a new week full of things to do.
We will grow some beans and maybe even a sun flower.
If the weather is good we will explore the school garden. We will also learn about the bees, hive and honey.
“Oh bumblebee, give a kiss to me”
Toddlers (2 Year Olds)
Oh well…we are just recovering from our great Carnival party. During the first few days of February we have been learning about shapes and sizes: circle, triangle, square, star, heart, big and small. Clowns and masks were also part of our new vocabulary.
Last time we “hinted” about some homework. This is a special project to help us with our end of the year Art project.
Our theme is: Smurfs World and our assignment will be to make a smurf with your child. Any smurf? No! Look at your child’s message book and you’ll see the smurf. You can do it 2D or 3D and please no smaller than A3 size. An excellent idea would be to use recyclable materials only. Have fun together. This project has to be in by June 1st.
Nursery News (3 Year Olds)
We had a lovely Carnival party, all Nursery children looked fantastic dressed up in their costumes. We had so much fun…playing games, dancing and eating our lovely party snack. We played games such as: “Pass the parcel” and “catch the sweet from the string”. We will be busy preparing for Father’s day, and continue to work on number related activities and Nursery rhymes:
1 Potato, 2 potato,
3 potato, 4, 5 potato,
6 potato, 7 potato more.. x 2
Mary, Mary
Quite contrary
How does your garden grow?
With silver bells and cockle shells,
And pretty maids
All in a row.
Reception News (4 Year Olds)
The carnival party was a big success. We played games, danced and many more. We want to thank you for all the cakes, sweets and drinks…you brought to school. The children loved it!!!
During the next weeks we will be working on numbers up to 20 and their place on the number track. We are also going to practice adding and subtracting. Further on we will practice our reading skills, by playing blending games.
To finish a little song we learnt for Valentine’s Day:
Sung to: "Row, Row, Row, your boat"
Love, Love, Love your Friends, Love them all year long. Especially on Valentine's Day, As we sing this song!
Year 1 News (5 Year Olds)
We had a busy week of celebrations in school. We had 100th day in school, Carnival and Valentine and these are some of those moments that we had together.
We had lots of FUN!!!
“ The Singing Bird”
I once knew a bird who was in love.
On valentine`s he would sing to a dove.
He would sing until dawn
And collapse on the lawn
When the dove came and gave him a shove.
